The camera rocks unpredictably while photographing the city of Paris from the top of a tall building. A paper boat appears superimposed over the image, as if the swaying city were a sea upon which a ship might sail. This avant-garde sequence conspicuously lacks a narrative. Compare to the montage in Big City Blues (see 3.4), where an equally dynamic montage serves a clear narrative purpose.
