Hitchcock’s version triples the movement: the world spins around the characters, the characters spin around each other, and the camera moves in and out. However intense the result, the shot remains semi-subjective. Rather than look through the character’s eyes, Vertigo momentarily depicts its protagonist from the outside, while representing the character’s world as he might see it.
