The Dynamic Frame: Camera Movement in Classical Hollywood

5.x17 The Battle of Midway

This carefully edited sequence of pictures and sounds initially suggests (perhaps inaccurately) that the American gunners are looking at this particular descending plane from their position behind the sandbags and then suggests (perhaps inaccurately) that they experience a concussion from this particular crash. The handheld camera fails to capture the crash itself, which is blocked by the sandbags; instead, the uncontrolled movement conveys what it feels like to experience the shock of battle.
