In the film’s screenplay, Casey Robinson advised a technique (a trucking shot), a speed (slow), and an order of presentation (first Elliot, then Charlotte and Jerry). The director, Irving Rapper, looked to the script for ideas, but not for specific instructions. In the finished film, the camera starts on the orchestra conductor before craning down to reveal Elliot, Charlotte, and Jerry seated in the front row.
