The camera, suspended from above, appears to track away from the musical instrument. (On set, the camera moved down toward the trumpet; the filmmakers reversed the direction by loading the film backward.) It is as if the camera has taken up the point of view of the sound itself, traveling from the trumpet up to the porter’s ears.
