Rip wakes up in a strange room after he has been knocked unconscious. Wondering why he was slugged, Rip turns over and sees something. A stinger on the soundtrack underscores his moment of recognition, but the film does not cut to the expected point-of-view shot. For several seconds, we are left to wonder what Rip has seen. Compare to the example from Murder, My Sweet (see 6.3), where revelation occurs before recognition.
