Vincente Minnelli argued that long takes were well-suited to the musical genre, but he also used long takes for comedies, as in M-G-M’s Father of the Bride. At Twentieth Century-Fox, producer Darryl F. Zanuck encouraged his directors to take Father of the Bride as a model because Minnelli had proven that a good crew could complete a quality film on a tight shooting schedule.
