The camerawork offers an eloquent commentary on vision and knowledge: Priscilla has seen MacDuff’s death, but she does not know what it means. Our own vision remains limited, just a succession of partial views: a hand releasing some flowers, the shadow of a soldier on the back wall, a bagpipe player standing behind a screen. But, for all these limitations, we are asked to comprehend the significance of these images with an adult wisdom that Priscilla at this moment does not possess.
